I warn you all: I don't know much about art, hence the initial write up is taken from her Press Release.
Iliodora Margellos presents her first solo exhibition entitled Fovea at the a.antonopoulou.art gallery .
The title of this series of
works was inspired by the anatomical term fovea, a small pit in the
eye’s retina which is responsible for sharp central vision.
Each work illustrates a
group of objects that belong to a particular thematic unit, as the fovea has –
according to the artist – chosen, elaborated and delivered to our perception.
The start and end point of
the exhibition is the installation entitled Scotoma (Blindspot), which
brings together all the objects that have been illustrated in the different
thematic groups of the works presented in the exhibition.
Now for the more personal touch - from my perspective.
I arrive at the Gallery to be warmly welcomed by Iliodora.
"Thank you for coming! It means a lot to me" she blushes slightly & I marvel at this astute young lady's ability to feel humbled and slightly shy, despite the fact she's got her own solo exhibition.
She takes me around and briefly describes the paintings. Painted on acrylic, I learn that she developed the concept in 2009, but actually started producing the pieces of work in the summer of 2012.
"A riot of colour" comes to my mind, and I am weirdly reminded of the clothes on offer by the Spanish clothing chain Desigual (who's clothes, when I am fortunate enough to have some spare cash to afford, I have to buy in Extra Large. Humans are not MADE that small, or maybe Spaniards are).
And the piece de resistance for me? Her beloved best friend - who allowed me to pick her up and carry her around. Ahhhhh.
Thank you, Iliodora, for being my guide and inflicting some colour on such a rainy Athens day.
